Summary:

Here is Acer’s contender in an ongoing battle for 1st place in the under $800 category. The AS7552G starts off well: first of all, it has this amazing 17.3 inch CineCrystal LED-backlit display with a 1600 x 900 resolution(720p HD).

This particular laptop is very comfortable to use while working on the web, so there is no need for lots of side scrolling. You can see the whole picture in only one glimpse.  With its 2.1 GHz Phenom Quad-Core processor (2 MB L2 cache) and  AMD Radeon HD 6650M (has 1 GB of GDDR3 discrete graphics memory) and 4 GB of installed DDR3 RAM it will work very well even in comparison to other laptops developed in the near future. This not only goes for programs but also for games, and we believe it will remain so for the next couple of years.

This laptop has all the features you need to successfully call it a complete multimedia center. It includs wi-fi, a 1.3 Megapixel HD camera, 4 usb 2.0 ports, HDMI, a multi-gesture touchpad and a Multi-in-1 Digital Media Card Reader .

The bottom line:

The AS7552G might just be Acer’s best attempt at winning a long awaited victory in a long lasting war on the market in this price range. For it’s price it’s one of the best choises for gamers

Acer

Processor: Intel Core i3-380M, 2.53MHz

RAM: 4GB DDR3, 1066MHz

Graphics: Intel HD Graphics with 128 MB of dedicated system memory

Hard Drive: 500 GB – Serial ATA HDD – 5400 rpm

Weight: 5.74 lbs (2.6 kg)

Display Size: 15.6-inches

Summary:

An earlier mentioned competitor of the Toshiba Satellite A665D. It has the same look as the rest of Acer’s budget laptops. That’s exactly what you will think when you see this laptop. The grey design doesn’t give it a chance to stand out, but you’ll completely change your mind after you discover what’s inside of this laptop. The Intel Core i3-380M(2.53 GHz)  opens a wide range of possibilities and it will be able to work effectively even if you are going to work extensively with documents, browse the internet and listen to music or even watch a video all at the same time. In addition, it’s reduced energy consumption now gives the user even more plug-free time. Having a 4 GB DDR3 with a 1066 MHz frequency should be enough to perform multiple and/or difficult tasks and in case you need more there is opportunity to add 4 more GB. As for graphics, the Intel HD video card works with a DirectX 10 and supports 3D. Teamed up with a 15.6 inch HD widescreen (16:9) (with a 720p HD resolution), it is extremely comfortable to watch movies in HD, to edit pictures and, of course, to play computer games. A 500 GB SATA drive (5400 RPM) is more than enough to store all the information needed for work and free-time activities.

Working without a mouse now has become even easier and more comfortable with a multi-gesture touchpad. Control your laptop with gestures, whether it scrolling through text, flicking through, zooming or rotating pictures.

The AS5742 also has everything you need to have a comfortable video chat or to take a picture. By saying everything, I mean a 1.3-megapixel HD webcam with 1280 x 1024 resolutions.

A range of ports including an HDMI and 3 usb 2.0 ports, allow the user to connect any device, from digital camera or an mp3 player up to a TV or an LCD screen. Finally, don’t forget about 2-in-1 card reader either.

The 6 cell Li-ion Battery (4400 mAh) provides up to 3.5 hours of battery life.

The bottom line:

This laptop combines both: low prices and powerful technology. All together it makes this laptop an extremely handy machine, which could very well become your reliable partner.

Acer AS5552-5898 15.6-Inch Laptop

Processor: AMD Phenom II N830 Triple-Core Processor, 2.13 GHz with 1 MB L2 Cache

RAM: 4GB DDR3 1066MHz

Graphics: AMD  Radeon HD 4250 graphics processor, 512 MB of DDR3 video-memory

Hard Drive: 500GB HDD, 5400rpm

Weight: 5.74 lbs (2.6 kg)

Display Size: 15.6-inches

Summary:

This one is a good example of Acer’s everyday laptop series. This model doesn’t stand out in the appearance category, but its specs and price are among the best in its class. The Acer 5552 has an  AMD Phenom II N830 Triple-Core processor(2.13 GHz), which has a 1.5MB L2 Cache, which is more than enough for any general purpose. It would be wrong to classify this laptop as one for general purposes, with its AMD  Radeon HD 4250 video card, which is packed with 512 MB of GDDR3 video-memory and supports DirectX 10.1, so you’ll basically be able to try out any game on today’s  gaming market. There is only one thing this video card might not support and guess what it is? It’s the 3D. Truthfully speaking, I really doubt that it is a necessity in a laptop such as this one. On top of everything, the 5552 is loaded with 4GB DDR3 RAM with 1066 MHz working frequency, therefore there shouldn’t be any further questions about its multitasking abilities. In addition, there  is an opportunity to upgrade it up to 8GB.

With a 1.3 megapixel  webcam and built in microphone, it is comfortable to use different voice and video chats such as Skype for example. Also there is a card reader that supports Secure Digital (SD) and a MultiMediaCard (MMC) to enable fast photos and video transfering from digital cameras to your laptop.

The 6-cell battery is enough for nearly three and a half hours of work.  Of course, there is always possibility to prolong the working time using batteries with larger capacities.

The bottom line:

This is an everyday-computing laptop that brings with it lots of possibilities. With its 15.6 inch sized screen, it is comfortable to use the 5552 for working with documents or for watching videos. Its special features more than compensate for its basic design. We feel that this is one of the best laptops for a worker, student and even gamer!.

Acer AS5742-6475 15.6-Inch Laptop

Acer

Processor: Intel Core i3-380M, 2.53MHz

RAM: 4GB DDR3, 1066MHz

Graphics: Intel HD Graphics with 128 MB of dedicated system memory

Hard Drive: 500 GB – Serial ATA HDD – 5400 rpm

Weight: 5.74 lbs (2.6 kg)

Display Size: 15.6-inches

Summary:

Acer keeps showing us that they can create good laptops and still keep prices low. This one has a new Intel Core i3-380M(2.53MHz) processor, which is pretty good. It has two cores with a good frequency of 2.53Mhz and 3MB L3 Cache. This is enough to perform well with any application. The 4GB DDR3 memory 1066MHz is also good, especially if you are using your laptop for a long time, running many applications at the same time. We like Acer’s decision to use Intel HD Graphics with 128 MB of dedicated system memory which will take care of all the graphic tasks and the CPU will not be loaded with them. Obviously, this amount of graphic memory is not enough to play games with the controls set at maximum, however it’s graphics are better than in almost every laptop around this price range. This laptop has a 500 GB HDD space, which is more than enough to store all data you might need. It’s 15,6-inch display is good for work and gaming. The big screen will prevent your eyes from straining and you can put more objects on your screen. Also you can work with different applications simultaniously, which is good for work. If you are a gamer, obviously you need a large screen to see every object and every movement on the map. Another feature that we like about this laptop is it’s full-size keyboard, which is always comfortable to work on. Another cool feature is it’s nice multi-touch touchpad: click, scroll, rotate, flick and zoom with one simple move.

We love the fact that the Acer team has put the top of the line (for this price range) hardware in this computer. This laptop has everything needed for smooth work and there is no application that this laptop can not perform well. Acer’s designers gave us a really smart solution for a good, yet cheap laptop. Toshiba did good work as well. In our opinion, these two companies have developed the two best solutions for laptops under 500 usd.

The bottom line:

We would like to say that this laptop is brilliant for work and it works for gamers as well. It has good hardware, which goes great together and many nice features which makes this laptop comfortable to use. There is nothing negative that we can say about this laptop. It is probably one of the best laptops for under $500 in 2011.

Acer Aspire TimelineX AS1830T-68U118 11.6-Inch Laptop

Acer Aspire TimelineX

Processor: Intel Core i7 680UM, 1.46GHz

RAM: 4GB, 1,066MHz DDR3

Graphics: Intel HD Graphics

Hard Drive: 500GB Serial ATA HDD 5400 rpm

Weight: 3.09 lbs (1.4 kg)

Display Size: 11.6-inches

Summary:

We are impressed with hardware of this subnotebook. Obviously it was designed for the fastest work performance in it’s size range of 11.6″. It’s Intel Core i7 680UM with 4MB L3 Cache is the fastest processor we have ever seen in such a tiny laptop. This processor allows any task to be performed quickly, especially if you are using Turbo Boost. With new Turbo Boost technology, this processor can be clocked with up to 2.5 GHz. It’s 4GB 1066MHz DDR3 RAM is also good, however, there is nothing new about it’s memory. In any case, this is more than enough to fit any application requirements and keep you working comfortably and smoothly. We are a little bit disappointed with it’s graphics which are integrated Intel HD Graphics, but they are good enough for any task you might need with the exception of games and some design applications. A large capacity hard drive with 500GB means that you can store all your work-related files without having to save them on an external drive, which is extremely beneficial, because you can keep all of the data in one place and you will never forget important files as long as you have your laptop with you.

The bottom line:

This is a small, fast and very powerful subnotebook which was designed for the highest perfomance rate in the range of 11.6-inches. If you are looking for a compact and powerful notebook for business, we recommend this one, as long as (with the exception of  games) we can not find any common application which this notebook can not handle.
